Biography

A board-certified pediatrician, Esther Smith, MD, is Cone Health’s inaugural foster care medical director. She practices as part of the palliative medicine team at The Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, the Child Advocacy Medical Clinic at the Greensboro Family Justice Center and Pediatric Specialists at Wendover Ave.

A non-judgmental, active listener, she is compassionate and empathetic. Her interests include foster care, abuse and sexual abuse, pediatric palliative care and pediatric hospice.

Originally from Indiana, she is married to Ben Hooker, MS, MD, MPH, FAAP, also a pediatrician and preventative care physician. Together, they are busy raising two young daughters.
