Thomas Joseph Thekkekandam, MD

Sports Medicine


Board certified in family medicine and sports medicine, Thomas Joseph Thekkekandam, MD, grew up in Greensboro. He graduated with highest honors from Ross University School of Medicine in 2009 after completing an undergraduate degree in biochemistry at UNC-Chapel Hill. He completed his residency in family medicine at Cone Health and a sports medicine fellowship at the Cone Health Sports Medicine Center. His professional interests include non-surgical adult and pediatric orthopedics and sports medicine, diagnostic ultrasound, custom orthotics, gait analysis, and concussion management.

In addition to serving as the team physician for Smith High School from 2010-2012, he served as the team physician for Randleman High School from 2012-2013, North Carolina A&T State University from 2012-2013, and the USA Track and Field Junior Olympics in 2013.  He is an Adjunct Professor of Family Medicine at the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Medicine and has published his work in an internationally recognized Sports Medicine journal.  In his spare time, he enjoys fitness training and working on American muscle car engines.
